Colder for all with some snow showers, staying unsettled and wetter as well as milder next week

The weather is set to be staying unsettled throughout the coming week. There will be wind and rain for all, a risk of some sleet and snow too, mostly over high ground. Colder weather through Thursday and then into the weekend. Conditions probably turning milder for a time next week with further periods of rain.

Saturday 23/1/21
Low pressure stays north of Scotland for Saturday. A severe morning frost in central and eastern Scotland and northern England. Snow showers may affect northern and northwestern areas of Scotland. Scattered snow showers affecting the west and northern of Ireland as well as coasts of west Wales and western Cornwall. Elsewhere it should be dry and chilly with plenty of sunshine. Highs at 3 to 5C.


Sunday 24/1/21
Low pressure remains in control of the weather again through Sunday, centred north of Scotland. There will be some snow showers over northern and western coasts and hills. Tending to be drier in inland areas, although even here there could be some showers. The risk of some heavier wintry showers affecting southern coasts. The risk of some more persistent snow in the far north of Scotland. Tops near 3 to 6C.


Monday 25/1/21
Another cold day. Plenty of sunny spells across the UK and Ireland. An area of snow showers may move south through Scotland and into Northern Ireland and northern England. A few snow showers over western coasts and hills. Highs at 3 to 6C.

Tuesday 26/1/21
A ridge of high pressure brings a dry start to the day with sunshine and a widespread frost. Increasing cloud bringing rain through Ireland and into the western UK, perhaps preceded by a period of sleet and snow. Highs at 2 to 5C for most, but to 7C in western Ireland and southwest England.

Wednesday 27/1/21
Probably a better day with higher pressure briefly building to bring some sunshine. Snow showers in western Scotland. A further areas of rain, sleet and perhaps some snow on high ground in southwest England. Highs at 4 to 6C for most, 10C in southwest England and Ireland.

Thursday 28/1/21
Thursday may become more unsettled after a brief spell of fair conditions. Increasing winds with rain spreading eastwards. Tops near 5C in Scotland, 11C over much of England and Wales.
