Varying temperatures, risk of some early heavy rain then colder

Varying temperatures over the coming days. There will be rain, some of it heavy and the chance of some sleet and snow in northeast England and central Scotland. Tending to turn colder later in the week and into the weekend with the risk of some wintry showers.

Friday 15/1/21
A weak ridge of higher pressure builds over the UK and Ireland on Friday. It is likely to be a chilly day for most. There will be some bright or sunny spells developing in the east, especially in the afternoon. Always tending to be cloudier in the west. The coud thickening in the west in the afternoon with some rain passing into Ireland in the afternoon, then the west of Scotland by the evening. Highs at 4 to 8C.


Saturday 16/1/21
An area of rain, some of it heavy will be spreading eastwards through the night and into Saturday morning. This could be some sleet and snow to northeast England and eastern Scotland for a time, perhaps with a covering of snow at low levels for a time. Brighter and drier weather should follow from the west with sunny spells developing, although more persistent rain and sleet in western Scotland. Highs at 3 to 5C in the east, 8C in the west and south.


Sunday 17/1/21
A ridge of high pressure builds on Sunday, although low pressure stays in the east. There will be some wintry showers in Scotland. Elsewhere it is likely to be bright with sunny spells and should be mostly dry. Highs at 5 to 8C.

Monday 18/1/21
Monday sees low pressure north of Scotland. Wintry showers or even longer spells of sleet with snow on high ground over Scotland, Ireland and northern England. Wetter in central and southern parts of England, this heavy at times. Highs at a milder 9C in the far south, 5 to 8C for most.

Tuesday 19/1/21
Low pressure to the east of the country on Tuesday. Wintry showers to the north and east, these persistent in places. Drier in the west with some bright or sunny spells. Thicker cloud and more persistent rain in the far south. Highs at 4 to 7C.

Wednesday 20/1/21
A slack area of low pressure affects all areas o Thursday. There will be some bright or sunny spells developing. Scattered showers on coasts. Highs at 4 to 7C.
