Cold until the weekend but hints of some milder weather next week

Cold weather will be lasting through the week and into the weekend, although there are signs of some milder weather arriving next week. There may be some further bits of rain, sleet and snow before then. Thursday and Friday are looking very cold too. By the end of the weekend a change in wind direction will be bringing less cold weather and then milder into next week.

Friday 8/1/21
A cold day on Friday with plenty of cloud across much of England and Wales. A week front will be bringing some outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow to parts of northern England, Wales and the Midlands. Probably dryer across more eastern parts of England although still some showers feeding into Kent. Brighter and cold for Scotland and Ireland with some snow showers affecting North East Scotland. Highs around 1 to 3C.


Saturday 9/1/21
A ridge of high pressure affects much of England, Wales and Ireland on Saturday. This brings a cold day but good spells of sunshine too. A front brings rain into the north and west of Scotland and western Ireland. eastern Scotland should be dry. Some further wintry showers across Kent and Essex. Highs at 7C in northern Scotland, more widely 2 to 4C.
 


Sunday 10/1/21
The ridge of high pressure persists on Sunday. This brings plenty of dry weather over England and Wales as well as Ireland with some sunny spells here. Drier in eastern Scotland, cloudy here. Drizzle over western Scotland and western coasts of Ireland, further drizzle in northwest England. Windy in northern Scotland. Staying cold as 2 to 4C for most, 7C in northern Scotland and western Ireland.

Monday 11/1/21
Pressure stays generally high over the south of the UK with some broken cloud, dry weather and the best sunny spells in the east. Low cloud and drizzle over western coasts and hills. More persistent rain in western Scotland and western Ireland. Tops at 4 to 8C.

Tuesday 12/1/21
Rather cloudy through Tuesday with periods of drizzle and rai over Ireland and much of the west of the UK. Drier in eastern areas with the best of any brightness here. Highs at 5 to 9C.

Wednesday 13/1/21
Higher pressure stays to the south on Wednesday. This brings lots of dry weather, but also plenty of cloud. Some drizzle and low cloud may affect western coasts and hills too. More persistent rain in northern and western Scotland. Tops at 5 to 8C.
