Colder end of the week and weekend with rain, sleet and snow showers, then milder and wetter next week

An unsettled week with low pressure bringing periods of rain, sleet and snow. tending to turn colder through Thursday and into the weekend with sunshine and showers. Remaining cold to start next week before conditions become milder and more unsettled again later.

Friday 22/1/21
A cold day in a west to northwest wind with low pressure to the northeast of Scotland. There will be snow showers across northern and western Scotland, a few of these affecting northwest England, western coasts of Wales and northwest Ireland. Drier and brighter elsewhere with plenty of sunshine, although feeling cold. Increased cloud bringing rain into southern Ireland and southwest England by the evening. Highs at 3C in northern Scotland, 7C in southern England and feeling very cold in that wind.


Saturday 23/1/21
Low pressure stays north of Scotland for Saturday. A severe morning frost in central and eastern Scotland and northern England. Snow showers may affect northern and northwestern areas of Scotland. A further area of low pressure may pass through southern England bringing the risk of a period of rain, sleet and snow. Mainly dry in northern England and Ireland with some sunny spells. Highs at 3 to 7C.


Sunday 24/1/21
Low pressure remains in control of the weather again through Sunday. A front passes east taking some rain, sleet and snow with it, most in the west. Brighter weather tending to follow from the west, although a few wintry showers are likely. Eastern areas may stay drier. Tops near 3 to 6C.

Monday 25/1/21
A ridge of high pressure builds through the UK nd Ireland on Monday. A severe frost to start the morning. Dry through the day for most with good spells of sunshine. A few wintry showers in northern Scotland. Highs at 3 to 7C.

Tuesday 26/1/21
Low pressure west of Scotland on Tuesday with a front pushing east. This bringing rain and strong winds, perhaps preceded by some sleet and snow on hills in the north. Milder air follows to all areas. Highs at 4 to 11C.

Wednesday 27/1/21
Low pressure remains close to Scotland on Wednesday. Heavy showers, some wintry in northern areas, a few showers in the west. Highs at 5 to 10C.
