Staying cold with limited wintry showers and severe overnight frosts for some

The cold weather is set to continue through this week. There will be some wintry showers at times, mostly affecting eastern areas at first. However bands of wintry precipitation will slip south through all parts of the UK and Ireland, although this will never be very heavy and rainfall amounts will generally be below average. Some severe overnight frosts can be expected.

Thursday 7/1/21
A weak cold front will be moving southwards through Scotland and Ireland then into northern England on Thursday. This brings with it a band of cloud and some showery outbreaks of sleet and snow. Colder weather follows into Scotland and Ireland but there will be sunshine here as well as a few showers on coast. More cloud and staying cold across the rest of England and Wales, although it should stay generally dry. Highs at a cold 1 to 3C.

Friday 8/1/21
A cold day for Friday as a ridge of high-pressure extends through the country. A sharp morning frost. There will be some snow showers affecting eastern coast of Scotland and England, with some clouds across central and southern England and Wales. Sunny spells elsewhere and generally dry although always the threat of a few snow showers in southern England. A cold day at 1 to 3C.

Saturday 9/1/21
The ridge of high-pressure remains through Saturday. This brings mostly dry weather across much of Ireland, England and Wales. A few snow showers could affect East Anglia and south-east England. Fronts bring thick a cloud and some periods of sleet and snow to northern and western Scotland. Breezy here too. Highs at 4C in the east, 2C in the west.

Pressure will be staying high overall through Sunday. A severe morning frost for all but Ireland, northern England and southern Scotland. Weak fronts will be bringing cloud and some bits of rain, drizzle and sleet too much of Ireland, northern England and Scotland. Broken cloud further south and generally dry. Highs at 2 to 4C.

Monday 11/1/21
Low pressure to the north of Scotland on Monday with high-pressure south-west of Ireland. This brings a slightly milder day with broken cloud and a few bright spells for many. Rain in northern and western Scotland. The best of any brightness in the east. Highs at 3 to 6C.

Tuesday 12/1/21
