A blustery day across the country with a wintry mix of rain, sleet and snow

Good morning,

We have two low pressure systems affecting the country first thing this morning. The first is centred over south-central England and is bringing gales to southwestern areas and along the Channel coast. It's also bringing rain, some of it heavy, to central parts of England and snow to the southern Pennines.

The second area of low pressure is centred to the west of Scotland and north of Ireland first thing and is bringing gales across Ireland and into western parts of Scotland. Its bringing sleet and snow to much of Ireland and into western parts of Scotland including the northern Western Isles.

Through the morning rain in the south will ease to leave scattered showers and some sunny spells while, further north, sleet and snow will spread across southern and central Scotland, northeastern England and along the length of the Pennines. Gales will continue to impact the Western Isles, much of Ireland, Wales and southwestern parts of England.

Through the afternoon snow will ease to wintry showers for much of Ireland, western Wales, northwestern England and southern Scotland while more persistent snow will continue for northern Scotland. High winds will continue for most with the exception of the far north of Scotland. High temperatures will reach 4 to 9 or 10C.

Through the evening wintry showers will continue to affect coasts and hills exposed to the strong northwesterly wind.

Stay warm & safe today!
Claire
