Staying unsettled over the coming days

It will stay rather unsettled over the coming week as low pressure continues to dominate our weather. There will be spells of heavy rain, wintry showers and gales. Temperatures staying at, or below, average for the time of year.

Wednesday 13/03/19
An area of low pressure is forecast to track southeastward through the North Sea on Wednesday bringing most of the country into a cold northwest to northerly airflow. Rain, some of it heavy, will affect western areas through the morning, falling as snow over higher ground. Through the afternoon rain will mostly ease but northwestern parts of Ireland and Scotland could see prolonged spells of heavy rain. Drier and brighter in northeastern areas. High temperatures at 5 to 10C.


Thursday 14/03/19
A westerly flow dominates on Thursday and fronts push eastward over the northern part of the country on Thursday bringing rain to Northern Ireland, Scotland, northwestern England and northern Wales. This will be particularly heavy for western Scotland and northwestern Ireland. It may be windy here too. Drier to the south with broken cloud and some bright or sunny spells developing in the southwest. High temperatures at 8 to 12C.


Friday 15/03/19
A front will push south over the island of Ireland, England and Wales through Friday morning. The rain associated with the front will ease as it tracks south. To the north will be very strong westerly winds which will bring showers, or persistent light rain to western and northern parts of Scotland. This will fall as snow over higher ground. Highs at 6 to 11C.
 


Saturday 16/03/19
A cold northwesterly flow will dominate on Saturday bringing a mix of sunshine and showers. Showers will be wintry in nature and will mostly affect northern and western coasts and hills. Highs at 5 to 10C.


Sunday 17/03/19
Sunday sees a more northerly airflow establish over the UK and Ireland. Another cool day but drier and brighter overall. Some wintry showers could affect northern coasts and hills. High temperatures at 6 to 9C.

Monday 18/03/19
A ridge of high pressure builds from the southwest bringing drier and brighter conditions on Monday. Some wintry showers may linger over western areas. High temperatures at 6 to 8C.
