Sunny periods; overnight frost

The beginning of April will be cool and unsettled, with low pressure producing a mix of sunshine and heavy showers. These will give hail and thunder, plus snow over higher ground. There will be a frequent risk of frost overnight.

Wednesday 03/04/19
Low pressure over the North Sea promotes a chilly northerly airflow across the British Isles. Clusters of showers, these very frequent for northern Scotland, with snow over the hills, at times to low levels. Wintry showers also for eastern coasts of England. Bands of showers also clipping west Wales and southwest England. Hail and thunder possible. Sunny spells in central areas. Highs 6 to 9C.

Thursday 04/04/19
A complex situation, with low pressure still nearby, perhaps pivoting back across the British Isles. Areas of showers, merging into more organised rain and hill snow, probably focused on Scotland. Sunshine breaking through, and some places in central Britain often dry. A risk of frost in the morning. Highs 6 to 10C.


 

Friday 05/04/19
An ongoing mixed pattern, with areas of showers, plus some lengthy dry and sunny periods. Detail very uncertain. Winds fairly light. A risk of frost and ice first thing. Daytime temperatures recovering a little, up to 8 to 12C.

 
 
 

Saturday 06/04/19
Indications favour an easterly pattern developing, with showers coming in from the North Sea, whilst western areas are drier and brighter. Chance of morning frost again. Highs 9 to 13C.

Sunday 07/04/19
A risk of some showery rain passing westwards across Britain on an easterly breeze. Chilly in the north and east, brighter southwest. Highs 8 to 13C.

Monday 08/04/19
An east or southeasterly breeze gives a risk of further showers in the east and northeast, whilst central and southwestern areas should be drier. Highs 9 to 13C.
