Dry until Friday in the south

High pressure continues to influence Britain this week, but will gradually retreat as fronts drift in from the Atlantic, bringing rain which will become heavy over hills in the west. Rain spills south and eastwards later this week. Becoming warmer and humid for a time, then cooler again toward next weekend.

Wednesday 21/9/22
High pressure drifts east during midweek but continues to keep many areas dry across England, Wales and eastern Scotland. Damp southwesterly breezes across Scotland, western areas will see low cloud and rain or drizzle. Cloudy too for Northern Ireland with a little drizzle in the west. Early fog patches in central and southern Britain again, but a dry day with varied cloud and sun. Highs at 17 to 22C, warmest in central and southeastern England.


Thursday 22/9/22
Heavy rain for Scotland and Northern Ireland, especially over the hills, extending into Cumbria and west Wales, becoming increasingly heavy. Showers follow in western Scotland. The Midlands, south and east of England stay dry with sunny spells and feeling pleasantly warm. High cloud building from the northwest. Brisk southwesterly breezes, strongest in the north and west. Feeling humid in the south. Highs at 15 to 22C, warmest southeast.

Friday 23/9/22
Outbreaks of rain move into central and southern areas, but rain tending to break up as fronts weaken. Extensively cloudy for much of England and Wales, but the rain likely clearing the north and west, followed by drier, brighter and relatively cooler weather here. A few showers for western Scotland and Northern Ireland. Breezy in the north. Highs at 15C north to 20C south.

Saturday 24/9/22
Variable cloud and sunny spells. Many places staying dry. Scattered showers focused around coasts in the west and east, a few running into the Midlands on a northwesterly breeze. Showers too for northern Scotland. Feeling fresher for all, highs 14 to 19C.

Sunday 25/9/22
Much of Britain and Ireland may stay dry with sunny spells. A risk of wind and rain moving in from the west into Scotland. A cool morning, but a pleasant feeling day, highs 14 to 18C.

Monday 26/9/22
Northwesterly winds are likely to affect the country, bringing some rain or showers and fairly cool conditions. Some sunny spells in the south and southeast. Highs 13 to 17C.
