Colder with heavy showers, severe gales by the end of the week, then more settled

A more unsettled week ahead with low poressure in control. Turning colder in the northerly winds. By the end of the week widespread gales may affect the country, ahead of conditions becoming more settled by the weekend.

Wednesday 28/9/22
Low pressure east of the British Isles on Wednesday. There will be some showers around the western, northern and eastern coasts. Some bright or sunny spells with more persistent showers in northwest Scotland with the risk of an early ground frost. Further showers in Ireland. Staying cold with a risk of a morning ground frost in sheltered areas of Wales, northern England and Scotland. Highs at 11 to 16C.


Thursday 29/22
Low pressure stays east of the country on Thursday with a cold start in the west. Showers and cloud over eastern areas, some of these heavy and more persistent. Brighter in the west and south with sunny spells. Increasing cloud in western Ireland with some rain here later. Highs at 12 to 16C.

Friday 30/9/22
A deep area of low pressure is passing just to the northwest of Scotland on Friday. Gales and heavy rain sweeping eastwards through all areas. Gusts could reach in excess of 70mph with a risk of some localised damage to trees and buildings, this most likely across northern areas. Highs at 13 to 17C.

Saturday 1/10/22
The area of low pressure passes to the east and north on Sunday. Staying windy with heavy showers and thunderstorms in Scotland and Northern Ireland as well as northern England and the north and west of Wales. Brighter elsewhere with sunny spells. Highs at 12 to 14C in Scotland, Ireland and northern England, 18C in parts of eastern England.

Sunday 2/10/22
A ridge of high pressure builds across the country on Sunday. This brings dry and bright conditions with sunny spells. Low pressure west of Scotland gives cloud and some rain in western Scotland. Highest at 20C in southern England, 12C in northwest Scotland.

Monday 3/10/22
Light winds on Monday with higher pressure building giving dry and fair weather to Scotland, northern England and Ireland. There is a risk of some patchy rain in southern England, although this should fade. Highs at 12 to 17C.
