Chilly, drier and brighter

Severe gales and snow in northern Scotland, drier and brighter for much of England and Wales as well as Ireland

Severe gales affecting much of Scotland and Northern England this morning. There's also snow to content with across Central and North Eastern parts of Scotland, and combined with that wind there are blizzards other parts of the highlands and Grampians. Much colder across all parts of the UK and Ireland with some wintry showers over Northwest England as well as the west coast of Wales and England too. Drier and brighter in other areas with lighter winds.

This afternoon sees the wind is easing across Scotland although they will still be at gale force in the east and north. The snow should ease to all they will persist in the far north. For England and Wales as well as island it should be bright and dry with good spells of sunshine although always that risk of some snow showers affecting western coast. Feeling much cooler than the last couple of days.

Tonight is mostly dry and clear across England, Wales and much of Ireland with a widespread frost. A few showers could affect Southwest England and the northern coast of Ireland. Staying breezy across northern Scotland with further snow showers here.
