Wintry showers on eastern coasts, best sunshine in west then snow tonight
It's a cold day for all parts of the UK and Ireland. Some wintry weather too. A band of sleet and snow slipping southwards to Scotland and Ireland this morning may lead to slight accumulations. Heavy snow showers then following into northern Scotland through this afternoon as yet cold air arrives.
Much of England and Wales start dry with a widespread frost but it won't be long before snow reaches Northwest England and North Wales, most of it only light with low accumulations. Tending to stay dry across central and southern areas with some bright spells although cloud increasing through the Midlands and the rest of Wales this afternoon and into this evening with some snow flurries.
Tonight sees the snow flurries through Wales, the Midlands and East Anglia with a slight accumulation in places. Heavy snow showers for northern and eastern Scotland. A widespread frost.
