Morning Call - January 08, 2021
Rain, sleet and snow sinking south
North brighter

Issued: 0530hrs Friday 8th January 2021
Duty forecaster: Alexi Venerus

Rain, sleet and snow drifting south through the day. Drier and brighter further north and west.

Another severe frost expected across parts of Scotland and northern England first thing Friday with frost patches further south. In the morning expect cloudy skies with some on and off rain, sleet and snow pushing across central and into southern areas of England and Wales. Brighter across Scotland and Northern Ireland and drier, but with snow showers affecting northern and northeastern Scotland. Snow is possible across southeast Scotland and northeast England for a time too during the morning. Showers, some wintry, along Irish coasts but mainly dry and sunny elsewhere here.

In the afternoon, any rain, sleet and snow will become confined to southern areas of England. Drier elsewhere with sunny skies, particularly further north and west. Coastal showers still affecting the southwest, Wales and Ireland.

Any rain, sleet and snow should gradually clear out across southern England and south Wales through the first part of the night allowing for dry conditions to come about. Largely dry with clear skies elsewhere. It will be another very cold night. Through the early hours cloud will thicken and patchy rain will push into the far northwestern parts of Scotland and Ireland.
