Wet & windy for many
Bright, showery north

Issued: 0530hrs Monday 18th January 2021
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

Outbreaks of rain spread into Ireland, Wales and England through Monday with winds picking up here too. Rain spreads into southern Scotland and Northern Ireland too. Staying bright over northern Scotland with frequent showers to the north and west. Some wintry.

Good Morning,

A weak front trailing across southern Scotland and Northern Ireland brings cloudy skies here through Monday morning with outbreaks of rain. North of this, skies will generally be quite bright though frequent showers affect the western half of Scotland and the Northern Isles. Cloudier skies to the south of the front for much of Ireland, England and Wales with patchy outbreaks of rain spreading across Ireland and into the southwest UK throughout the morning.

During the afternoon, the aforementioned front moves north over central Scotland bringing more persistent outbreaks of rain here. Cloudy skies remain to the south of this with heavier bursts of rain feeding into Ireland, England and Wales from the southwest. Staying brighter over northern Scotland with wintry showers to the west and over Orkney and Shetland.

Locally heavy outbreaks of rain continue for England, Wales and Ireland into Monday evening and spread into Northern Ireland and southern Scotland later. Winds pick up to the south too with coastal gales developing for south-central and southeastern coastal counties of England. Staying mostly dry for northeast Scotland while showers affect the northwest.

Have a good day!

Claire
