A dry and fine day for many though wintry showers affect coasts while an area of low pressure developing over the North Sea brings outbreaks of sleet and snow to northeastern parts of England initially then spreading through the Midlands and, later, into Wales and the southwest. Staying cold in a northerly breeze.

Wintry showers affect Northern Ireland and coastal regions of the rest of the UK and Ireland through Saturday morning. The best of the sun will be over western areas where there may also be some isolated mist and fog patches. A weak area of low pressure over the North Sea moves inland over northeast England and Yorkshire bringing snow showers here.

Snowfall spreads into the Midlands and east Wales through the afternoon while wintry showers continue to affect coastal regions of the UK and Ireland. These merging over eastern parts of Scotland and England to give longer spells of rain here. Temperatures stay slightly milder here at 6 or 7C, colder over central and western areas with highs at just 1 to 5C. The best of the sun continues to be for western areas.

The area of snowfall tracks into southwest England through the evening where it tends to fade. Isolated wintry showers persist for coastal areas while longer spells of rain continue over eastern England and Scotland. Clearer skies to the west allow temperatures to drop rapidly here into the evening allowing a widespread frost and icy patches to form.
