Morning Call - February 01, 2021
Mostly chilly
Wet overnight

Issued: 0530hrs Monday 1st February 2021
Duty forecaster: Alexi Venerus

Some rain, sleet and possible snow for southwestern areas of the UK through the day. Rain, sleet and snow spreading east overnight.

A widespread frost first thing across Scotland, northern and central England and Wales. Much milder in the far south and southwest. A fast moving area of low pressure will bring rain to Wales and southwest England, snow over the higher ground here, but largely clear off by midday. Snow showers affecting parts of north and east Scotland. Dry elsewhere with best of any sunny spells towards the north and east.

A drier afternoon for southwestern areas with some sunny spells developing. Wintry showers across Scotland will too mostly fizzle out allowing for some bright conditions here. Rain will begin to push into western parts of Ireland and Northern Ireland by the end of the day.

Overnight, heavy spells of rain, falling as sleet and snow initially and over higher ground, will push across much of the country. Snow fall could be extensive across the higher ground, in particular across Wales, central and northern England and Northern Ireland. Clear skies will remain across northern and central Scotland through the night allowing for a widespread and hard frost to develop here. Rain, sleet and snow as well as cloud will push in to southern Scottish areas by early morning.
