Cold, snowy north
Some rain south

Issued: 0530hrs Friday 5th February 2021
Duty forecaster: Alexi Venerus

Further snow for Scotland. Outbreaks of rain for some further south.

In the morning, with an easterly wind continuing to blow through across the northern half of the country, expect snowfall to persist for parts of Scotland, blizzards over the higher ground, but also sleet and rain to many lower ground areas. Meanwhile, patchy rain will push across Wales and southwest England. Staying largely dry with sunny spells for the rest of England and much of Northern Ireland.

In the afternoon rain, sleet and snow will continue across eastern and central Scotland. Western areas largely dry. Outbreaks of rain pushing into the Midlands and across central England. Showers across Wales and any showery rain becoming confined to eastern areas of Northern Ireland, while rain will push across much of Ireland.

Overnight, snow will continue to affect Scotland, mainly eastern into central areas, as an easterly wind continues to blow. Showery rain will push into northern England and will turn to snow over higher ground mainly but could potentially reach lower levels too. Rain, sleet and snow will also continue to affect north Wales with rain affecting western coasts as the night progresses seeing conditions largely dry up further south.
