Morning Call - January 09, 2021
Cold
Dry for many

Issued: 0530hrs Saturday 9th January 2021
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

Another cold day with a very cold start. Widespread frost and ice patches are expected this morning along with some areas of mist and fog over southern areas. The best of the sun over southern areas too while northern areas are cloudier with patchy rain, sleet and snow affecting Scotland.

Good Morning,

A very cold start to the day for all areas with a widespread frost and icy patches expected so do take care if you're out and about early this morning. A dry and fine start for many but there will also be the risk of mist and fog patches, particularly in the south. Cloudier over northwest Scotland with rain pushing in here from the Atlantic during the morning. Some patchy rain may develop too over northwest Ireland.

Rain turns to sleet and snow over higher ground as it pushes south over Scotland during the afternoon. Staying dry elsewhere across England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland. The best of the sun becomes confined to southeast Ireland, Wales and central and southern England during the afternoon.

Temperatures drop rapidly over southern areas where clearer skies remain as we head into Saturday evening. Staying cloudier over Northern Ireland and Scotland with patchy rain persisting over Scotland. This gradually becomes confined to the northwest through the night.

Have a good day!

Claire
