Dull, wet and mild to the west, cold and dry east, but some snow over Scotland and then northern England this evening

A dull, dark and wet morning across western and southwest Scotland, northwest England, Wales, the Midlands and into southeast England. Lots of low cloud and drizzle affecting western and southern coasts and hills too. Some snow over the hills of western Scotland. Drier and colder in eastern England and eastern Scotland.

The area of rain will be slipping slowly eastwards through this afternoon with the snow turning more frequent in central and southern Scotland as well as over the Pennines. Mild and drizzle as well as misty through southern and western areas of England and Wales. Periods of rain moving back into Ireland.

There may be a period of more persistent snow affecting central and southeast Scotland as wel as northeast England this evening. Wet across Wales and northwest England as well as western Scotland and Ireland. Dull, mild and breezy in the south and west.
