Issued: 0530hrs Saturday 23rd January 2021 Duty forecaster: Alexi Venerus
Largely dry and bright but with wintry showers affecting western areas.
In the morning, expect a widespread frost. It will continue to be a cold day but largely dry and bright, best of the sunshine in the north and east. Showers wintry; falling as snow, in the north and over higher ground will affect northern and western Scotland, Northern Ireland and southwest England. Wales too will see showers, these becoming widespread.
Similar conditions continue into the afternoon although Wales could see showers ease off and push into central southern areas later in the day.
With a transient ridge building in across the country through the evening it will be a largely dry night. However, snow showers will continue to affect northern and western Scottish coasts and hills. Cloud will build across Ireland, Northern Ireland and southern Scotland as rain, sleet and snow push into these areas through the early hours.
