Morning Call - July 29, 2019
Dry & fair for many
Stormy SW later

Issued: 0530hrs Monday 29th July 2019
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

A dry and fair day ahead for many across the British Isles today but heavy, thundery showers and strong winds will move into southwestern parts of the UK later.

Good morning,

Rain lingering over southwestern Scotland and northeastern Northern Ireland first thing while there will be some showers for the Northern Isles. Elsewhere it's a dry start to the day with variable amounts of cloud around. Rain will clear from Northern Ireland through the morning but spread across southern and western Scotland. Elsewhere, cloud will build into southern parts of Ireland and the southwest of the UK as a low pressure system approaches from the Atlantic. A few showers affecting Ireland at times through the morning too.

Winds will increase over southwestern England, south Wales and southern Ireland through the morning as cloud builds too. By the early afternoon there will be some heavy bursts of rain affecting eastern parts of Ireland, Wales and southwestern England. These will continue to spread slowly to the northeast through the afternoon and into the evening. Near gale force winds are expected for south Cornwall and Devon coasts with gusts up to 45mph for more exposed localities. Heavy showers continuing for parts of Scotland through the afternoon but elsewhere across the British Isles it should be a mostly dry and fair day.

Heavy rain, thundery showers and strong winds will continue over the southwest UK and parts of Ireland into Monday evening while showers will ease over Scotland. A fair evening follows for northern, central and eastern parts of England, much of Scotland, Northern Ireland and north Wales.

Have a good day!
Claire
