Wet northwest

Issued: 0530hrs Monday 22nd July 2019
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

A northwest-southeast split in the weather today with bright, dry conditions to the southeast, cloudier and wet to the northwest.

Good morning,

A cloudy start to the day for most of the British Isles with heavy rain affecting western parts of Scotland. Lighter rain affecting northern and western parts of Ireland and northern Scotland as well. Dry elsewhere. Through the morning cloud will break over southeastern parts of England allowing for some sunny spells to develop. Rain will ease too for many areas though will persist over western parts of Scotland.

This pattern persists through the afternoon with light showers occasionally affecting western Ireland and the northern half of Scotland. Sunny spells will spread further towards the northwest through the afternoon. High temperatures at just 15 to 17C in the northwest, more widely at 19 to 25C. Parts of the southeast and eastern England could see 26 or 27C.

Into this evening rain will persist over northwestern Scotland. Dry elsewhere with good sunny spells for most to end the day.

Have a good day!
Claire
