A better week ahead
Fewer showers

Issued: 0900 Friday 12th May 2023
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Some warm sunshine, cool in the breeze

A mixed start to the week with some rain or showers as a front which passes south and east from late Sunday continues to affect southern and eastern Britain into Monday daytime. Thereafter, high pressure is expected to be nearby, bringing a fair amount of dry weather. Temperatures still a little on the cool side through midweek, especially in eastern regions.

Monday 15/5/23
A front draped across England and Wales brings cloudy skies and outbreaks of rain in the morning. Tending to break up, but patchy rain and some local showery bursts are likely into the afternoon, focused over southern and eastern areas. Drier and brighter for Scotland and Ireland, a chance of localised light showers by afternoon. Feeling cooler with a fresh northerly breeze. Highs 12 to 16C, but cooler where rain persists.

Tuesday 16/5/23
High pressure centres just to the west of Ireland on Tuesday allowing for many areas to stay dry and fine, though showers look to develop as the day progresses particularly through central and eastern areas of England and Scotland. A cool northerly breeze for eastern England. Highs at 12 to 17C, warmest in the west.

Wednesday 17/5/23
High pressure extends across the country with broken cloud and warm sunshine for many. Chance of one or two light afternoon showers. Mostly light winds, perhaps a fresh easterly breeze for southern England. Highs at 12 to 17C.

Thursday 18/5/23
High pressure is likely to stay nearby with fine weather for many places. Chance of odd local showers by afternoon. Breezy in the south, a fresh easterly near the English Channel. Feeling a little warmer. Highs 14 to 19C.

Friday 19/5/23
Staying generally fine with high pressure nearby. Mostly dry with one or two showers forming by afternoon inland. Showery rain may be locally more frequent in northwest Scotland. Light winds. Highs 14 to 19C.

Saturday 20/5/23
High pressure is likely to reside toward the north, with an easterly breeze across Britain. Sunshine best in the west, cloudier in the east. A little showery rain may affect the southeast. Highs 13 to 20C.
