Hefty bursts of rain advancing eastwards

Good morning,

Low pressure is centred to the northwest of Britain and Ireland today, driving an unstable southwesterly airflow, producing showers for most places.

A front wrapped around the low pushes slowly eastwards. Generally showery, with some longer spells of rain possible in western areas, these transferring east & northeastward through the day. Some heavy and thundery downpours locally.

Largely dry in the morning across east & southeastern coastal counties, and the far southeast of England may well escape dry much of the day. Breezy around the coasts.

Today's top temperatures will reach 22 to 24C in the Midlands and southeast, 17 to 20C north and west.
