Brighter with showers south & east

Issued: 0530hrs Monday 5th August 2019
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

Outbreaks of rain will spread from west to east across the British Isles today. The heaviest rain over northern and western areas; brighter but with showers for southern and eastern parts of the country.

Good morning,

Heavy rain affecting northern parts of Scotland first thing this morning while western parts of England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are also experiencing some lighter outbreaks of rain. Drier and brighter to the east initially but the rain will make its way eastward through the morning though it will be becoming lighter and more showery in nature as it goes.

Through the afternoon rain spreads across Ireland and Northern Ireland with some heavy, thundery bursts at times. For most other areas rain clears to the east though it is likely to linger over northern and western parts of Scotland and for parts of Wales and the southwest. Dry and mostly bright elsewhere. High temperatures at 16 to 19C across much of Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. England seeing highs of 16 or 17C in the northwest, 22 to 23C in the east.

Through the evening rain will clear away from northern Scotland but will spread from Ireland into western Scotland and the northwest of England. Some showers continuing over parts of Wales and the southwest. Elsewhere should see a mostly dry and bright evening.

Have a good day!
Claire
