Gales

Issued: 0530hrs Sunday 1st November 2020
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

A deep area of low pressure to the northwest of the UK brings a very windy and wet start to the day for England, Scotland and Wales. Drier over Ireland and Northern Ireland through the morning though frequent showers afeect western areas. Another area of low pressure arrives from the southwest later bringing more rain to parts of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales, western England and southern Scotland. Widespread gales are expected with stronger winds over exposed areas and coastal regions.

Good Morning,

An area of low pressure to the northwest of Scotland sends bands of rain across England, Wales and Scotland this morning. Behind the rain follows a mixture of sunny spells and very blustery showers. These mainly focussed over western areas. Very windy to start to the day across the British Isles with widespread gales. Winds reaching severe gale force, or perhaps even stronger, to the north of Ireland and around the coasts of Scotland.

Staying very windy to the north of the UK through Sunday afternoon as another area of rain arrives from the southwest spreading across Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales, southern Scotland and much of England. A drier, brighter afternoon for eastern parts of Scotland but blustery showers continue over western areas. Winds pick up from the southwest again too behind the main area of rain with gales over exposed areas in Ireland and the southwest UK.

Staying very windy into the evening with gales for many. The strongest winds will be through the Irish Sea and over the Northern Isles. Staying wet too for many as rain persists over much of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales, western England and southern Scotland.

Stay safe out there today!

Claire
