Week ahead - May 03, 2020
Dry for many
Some rain southwest

Issued: 0900 Sunday 3rd May 2020
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

Mainly dry northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, some rain to the far south, cool

The weather tends to become quieter into the start of next week. Broken cloud and some sunny spells for most, although a tendency for lower pressure to the south of Ireland. This brings rain into southern Ireland and the far south of England. An easterly flow tending to become established on a few days leading to cool conditions, especially on eastern coasts. Some uncertainty around the forecast towards the end of the week with the possibility of lower pressure sending fronts eastward across Ireland and the UK.

Wednesday 06/05/20
An area of high pressure remains to the east of the UK on Wednesday, centred over the North Sea. The remains of a front extend through southwest Ireland, Wales and southwest England bringing some cloud and patchy, light rain here. A dry day across the rest of Ireland and the UK with good spells of sunshine developing for most. Some broken cloud around, mostly to the east. Highs at 10C on eastern coasts, more widely 14 to 17C inland and to the west.

Thursday 07/05/20
The area of high pressure stays to the east of the UK on Thursday, centred over the southern North Sea. Lower pressure west of Ireland brings cloud and outbreaks of rain here. Patchy rain spreading into western parts of the UK at times. Drier for other areas with the cloud being more broken and allowing for some good sunny spells. The best of the sun over eastern Scotland and eastern and northern England. Highs at a milder 14 to 20C.

Friday 08/05/20
Some uncertainty around the forecast for Friday at the moment. It could be that pressure lowers and fronts spread across the British Isles bringing outbreaks of rain for many. These heaviest to the southwest. Breezy here too. Highs at 13 to 21C.

Saturday 09/05/20
Confidence remains low into Saturday but it could be that high pressure stays to the north of the UK allowing further fronts to push eastward across the country bringing outbreaks of rain. High temperatures at 11 to 18C.

Sunday 10/05/20
Again, confidence is low at this time but high pressure may remain to the north of the British Isles through Sunday allowing lower pressure to stay in control. Further outbreaks of rain could affect southern areas. Highs ranging from 10 to 19C.

Monday 11/05/20
Monday may see higher pressure start to build once more from the northeast though confidence continues to be low. This would bring drier, brighter conditions to the northeast while southwestern areas would continue to see outbreaks of rain. Highs from 12 to 18C.
