Week ahead - May 24, 2020
Dry & warm to start
Changing by the weekend

Issued: 0900hrs Sunday 24th May 2020
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

Largely dry and warm

The week ahead will see more largely dry weather across much of the country as high pressure dominates. Occasional weak weather fronts will bring some cloud and rain in from the Atlantic, these mostly affecting the northwest. Indications are that pressure lowers across the country towards the weekend with more mixed conditions spreading across the British Isles.

Wednesday 27/05/20
High pressure stays in charge with dry weather prevailing for many. Remnants of weak fronts may give some cloudier periods for northern and western districts, whilst southern and eastern parts will fare best for sunshine. Light winds and coastal sea breeezes. A little patchy rain or drizzle may come into western Scotland and Ireland. Highs of 14 to 23C.

Thursday 28/05/20
A cloudier day is likely with a risk of some patchy rain moving in from the west as weak fronts push in from the Atlantic. Some uncertainty about how far south & east this will spread. Likely to be wettest in the west with the best of the sun over eastern England. Light to moderate west or southwesterly winds. High temperatures of 16 to 22C.

Friday 29/05/20
A general southerly flow with cloudier skies on Friday as Atlantic fronts bring some patchy outbreaks of rain here. Again there is some uncertainty about how far southeast this spreads. Likely to be wettest over western Ireland and western Scotland. Rather cloudy elsewhere too with the best of the sun to the far southeast. Highs at 14 to 21C.

Saturday 30/05/20
Low pressure to the west may bring some heavy rain into Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland as well as northern parts of England and Wales. Rather cloudy but staying mostly dry for central and southern England and south Wales. Highs at 16 to 24C.

Sunday 31/05/20
Some uncertainty around Sunday's forecast but low pressure may stay close by bringing further outbreaks of heavy rain though the detail surrounding the timing and location of the rain is unclear. Highs of 13 to 21C.

Monday 01/06/20
Monday may see pressure rising once more and any lingering rain gets squeezed south over the continent throughout the day. Skies clear with some good spells of sunshine developing later. Highs of 14 to 21C.
