Cool start then getting warmer, plenty of dry weather, just a few outbreaks of rain

After the cool weather of the past few days, temperatures are set to be rising into next week. There will be some outbreaks of rain at the weekend, mostly in northern areas, but generally the story is of dry weather remaining.

Saturday 16/5/20
Low pressure north of Scotland on Saturday but higher pressure to the south. There will be weak fronts bringing light rain to northwest Ireland and the west and north of Scotland. Drier in eastern Scotland as well as through England and Wales. A few bright or sunny spells in central and southern parts of England but more cloud than recently here. Highs at 12C in northern Scotland, 18C in southeast England.


Sunday 17/5/20
Rain across much of Scotland and Ireland on Sunday, although northern and eastern Scotland should be drier. Drizzle affects western coasts and hills of Wales and England. Drier in more central and eastern areas with some bright or sunny spells. Highs at 23C in southern England, 10C in northern Scotland.
 


Monday 18/5/20
A small area of low pressure crossing northern England on Monday. There will be some showers in Ireland, northern England, Wales and Scotland, a few of them heavy. Drier in the far north of Scotland as well as the far south of England. Highs at 11C in northern Scotland, 22C in southern England.
 


Tuesday 19/5/20
A warm front passing through Scotland on Tuesday brings cloud and some drizzle to western and northern areas of Scotland. Ireland will have broken cloud. Drizzle and low cloud lift from western coasts of Wales and western England to leave sunny spells and warm weather. The best sunshine to the southeast. Highs at 17 to 25C.


Wednesday 20/5/20
High pressure brings dry weather on Wednesday. There will be sunny spells and it will be dry for most. Highs at 18 to 26C.

Thursday 21/5/20
Higher pressure to the east on Thursday. Fronts could bring some cloud and rain into western Ireland. Most parts should stay dry with sunny spells. Highs around 19 to 25C.
