Thundery showers, then windy and fresh by Friday and the weekend, drier next week

Very warm briefly tomorrow but then a thundery breakdown on Thursday. Turning fresher with a risk of gales and a mix of sunshine and showers on Friday. Those showers continue in northern and western areas on Saturday, but dry and fair in the east and south. Little changes on Sunday, then high pressure building again into next week bringing a return to drier, warmer weather once more, although with a fair amount of cloud.

Friday 22/5/20
Gales in northern and western areas on Friday, these affecting the whole of Ireland too. A deep area of low pressure to the northwest of Ireland drives fronts and their cloud and rain into northern and western Scotland. A few spots of rain for England and Wales, but then mostly breezy, fresh and dry, although a few showers affecting western coasts and hills. Further showers in Ireland during the afternoon, but some brightness here too, especially in the south. Highs at 22C in southeast England, turning cooler elsewhere at 16 to 18C.


Saturday 23/5/20
High pressure south of the UK on Saturday. A southwest flow brings scattered showers and sunny spells to Ireland. heavier showers and stronger winds in northern and western Scotland. merging to longer spells of rain at times here. Good spells of sunshine for most of England, Wales and Ireland. Highs at 21C in southeast England, 12C in northern Scotland.
 


Sunday 24/5/20
Higher pressure stays to the south on Sunday. This brings good spells of sunshine and a dry day to most. More cloud and breezier conditions in Scotland and the north and west of Ireland, a few spots of drizzle here. Highs at 21C in eastern England, a cooler 18 to 19C for most, but 12C in northwest Scotland.
 


Monday 25/5/20
The pressure stays high on Monday bringing more fair weather and some god spells of sunshine to most. Low cloud and some drizzle troubles western Ireland and western Scotland again, with a fresh southwest wind in Scotland and western Ireland too. Temperatures at 25C in southeast England, 15C in western Scotland.


Tuesday 26/5/20
A weak front brings cloud and the chance of a few spots of rain to Scotland, northern England and Ireland on Tuesday, although this would only be very light. Sunny, dry and warm to the south, with cooler weather in northern Scotland. Highs at 28C in southern England, 13C in northern Scotland.

Wednesday 27/5/20
High pressure remains over western Ireland on Wednesday. Soe cloud affecting southern Ireland and central and southern England, but sunny spells too. The best of the sunshine in more northern areas. Highs at 12C in northern Scotland, 20C in southern England.
