Cold with periods of rain, sleet and snow, most in central and eastern England and Scotland

A spell of wintry weather through the course of this week as temperatures fall and rain, sleet and snow affect many parts of the country. Most of the rain through the end of the week and early weekend will be across central, southern and eastern England as well as eastern Scotland. Snow is likely over parts of Scotland with some snow showers affecting high ground of England and Wales. It remains cold throughout.

Friday 4/12/20
Low pressure over southeast England on Friday. Rain and cloud through much of England and eastern Wales as well as eastern Scotland. There could be some sleet and even some snow on the leading edge of the rain area over high ground of southern England, the Midlands and northern England. Western Wales and southwest England are going to be cold but dry. The best sunshine in Ireland and western Scotland. Temperatures at 3 to 5C in the west, perhaps to 7C on eastern coasts.


Saturday 5/11/20
The area of low pressure remains over eastern areas through Saturday. This brings another cold day. Plenty of cloud and periods of rain across much of central, northern and eastern England. Eastern Scotland also seeing rain and sleet. There may be some sleet and snow over the hills of northern England and Wales. Drier in western Scotland with sunny spells, some showers in northern and western Ireland. Highs at 7C in the east, 5C in the west.


Sunday 6/12/20
The area of low pressure is expected to be in the North Sea on Sunday. The cold northerly wind affects all parts of the UK and Ireland. Rain and sleet across northern and eastern Scotland as well as north east England, falling as snow on the hills. Much brighter and drier for the west and south, although some showers in western Ireland, north and west Wales and the coasts of Southwest England. Mostly dry in Ireland with sunny spells as well as being cold. Windy in the east. Highs at 5 to 8C.

Monday 7/12/20
Little changes on Monday with low pressure remaining to the east. Once again there will be more persistent rain and sleet affecting eastern Scotland and North East England. Showers in western Scotland, and along northern and western coasts of Wales and Southwest England. Dry elsewhere with some bright or sunny spells and feeling cold. Highs at 4 to 6C.

Tuesday 8/12/20
Low-pressure again brings a day of bright spells and showers. Most of the showers across southern parts of the UK. Rain could affect Ireland and will spread slowly eastwards as the day progresses. Cold again at 4 to 6C.

Wednesday 9/12/20
Pressure remains low through Wednesday. This is going to be bringing a mix of sunny spells and some showery bursts of rain. The rain tending to affect eastern areas. Showers in western Scotland. Remaining cold at 4 to 7C.
