Unsettled initially then turning colder with some significant snow in places

An unsettled next couple of days with wind and rain then a cold northerly wind will prevail bringing sleet and snow to many places. Frosty nights too. Staying cold in to 2021.

Another cold day with low pressure to the east of the country and a general northerly wind, rather brisk towards western coasts. This brings with it rain, sleet and snow to many northern and eastern areas. Risk of more persistent snow developing for eastern Scotland and northeast England later. Tending to be drier in central and western areas. Highs 3 to 5C.
 

Wednesday 30/12/20
Cold northerly winds continue. Further areas of snow focused toward the northeast. Snow showers running into East Anglia too, and draped around coasts in the west. The Midlands and central-southern England should be mainly dry. Sunshine, and frosty where sheltered from the wind. Highs 1 to 5C.
 

Thursday 31/12/20
Detail becomes uncertain, but the outlook remains cold. Further areas of snow showers, sleet in the north mainly but sinking into the Midlands and southern England later. Drier and bright elsewhere. Sunshine and frosty conditions for many inland areas. Highs 1 to 4C.
 

Friday 01/01/21
A chilly start to the New Year. Areas of wintry showers in places, but particularly across northern Scotland, but also a good amount of dry weather with frost. Local fog patches. Wind mostly light. Highs 1 to 4C.

Saturday 02/01/21
Continuing with a slack pressure pattern today, with chilly conditions prevailing. Light wind and some fog patches. Frosty but bright. Local wintry showers these tending more towards coasts. Highs 1 to 5C.

Sunday 03/01/21
An Atlantic low pressure system looks to shake the scene up somewhat today and bring strengthening winds to the north at least. Rain will also push into northwestern areas. Drier elsewhere with lighter winds. Highs 3 to 6C.
