Cold with periods of rain and showers, a risk of snow on hills

Turning colder through this week with low pressure taking control of the weather. This brings periods of rain and showers. Snow is likely over the hills of Scotland and may extend to the hills of northern England and Wales too. Indications for next week are that it stays cold and mixed.

Thursday 3/12/20
A cold day for Thursday with low-pressure passing eastwards. This brings lots of cloud and outbreaks of rain. There will be some heavier periods of rain across Southwest England and Wales as well as the far south east. Another area of rain could affect northern England. Showers in Scotland, some of them heavy in central areas. Island is likely to be brighter with some sunny spells and a scattering of showers. High temperatures at 3 to 6C.


Friday 4/11/20
Low pressure remains over the UK and Ireland on Friday. Northern areas of England, Wales and Scotland are likely to be wet with some heavy rain in the east. Western Scotland and Ireland will be brighter and cold. The rain will fall as snow over the hills of Scotland, northern England and Wales. Some rain could affect southern and eastern parts of England too. Highs near 3 to 5C.


Saturday 5/12/20
The area of low pressure remains over eastern areas through Saturday. This brings another cold day. Plenty of cloud and periods of rain across much of central, north east and eastern England. Eastern Scotland also seeing rain and sleet. There may be some sleet and snow over the hills of northern England and Wales. Drier in western Scotland with sunny spells, some showers in northern and western Ireland. Highs at 7C in the east, 5C in the west.

Sunday 6/12/20
The area of low pressure is expected to be in the North Sea on Sunday. The cold northerly wind affects all parts of the UK and Ireland. Rain and sleet across eastern Scotland and north east England will turn to snow on the hills. Much brighter and drier for the west and south, although some showers in western Ireland, western Wales and the coast of Southwest England. Windy in the east. Highs at 5 to 7C.

Monday 7/12/20
Little changes on Monday with low pressure remaining to the east. Once again there will be more persistent rain and sleet affecting eastern Scotland and North East England. Showers in western Scotland, and long northern and western coast of Wales and Southwest England. Try elsewhere with some bright or sunny spells and feeling cold. Highs at 4 to 6C.

Tuesday 8/12/20
A ridge of higher pressure may build on Tuesday bringing another cold but largely dry day. However, rain will affect western Ireland and this may slip into Wales and Southwest England through the day. A few showers in northern and eastern Scotland, these falling asleep in the snow. Highs at 3 to 6C.
