Boxing Day gales then colder with wintry showers

Colder weather has now arrived through the UK and Ireland and that is the pattern set for the rest of Christmas and New Year. There will be periods of rain, sleet and snow although at this stage we don't expect any widespread outbreak of wintry weather. Gales and some heavy rain for Boxing Day.

Sunday 27/12/20
A cold day for all on Sunday. Low pressure will be centred over Scotland. Rain and sleet in northern and eastern Scotland, snow on the hills. Further rain and sleet in northwest England and parts of Wales. Showers across western and southern areas of England and Ireland, these heavy and perhaps merging to longer spells of rain with sleet and snow on hills. Drier and brighter to the east with sunny spells. Highs at 3 to 6C.

Monday 28/12/20
Low-pressure to the south on Monday. This brings a cold day with some wintry showers, possibly prolonged, over northern and eastern Scotland as well as parts of eastern England. Drier in western areas and brighter too. Highs at 2 to 5C.

 
 
 

Tuesday 29/12/20
Another cold day with low pressure to the east of the country. This brings with it rain, sleet and snow to many northern and eastern areas. Tending to be drier in the west. Breezy for all. Highs at 3 to 5C.

Wednesday 30/12/20
A chilly northwest flow on Wednesday. This is going to be bringing a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers. eastern areas should be dry with sunny spells. Highs at a cold 2 to 5C.

New Year's Eve 31/12/20
It's a cold end to 2020 with low pressure bringing some wintry showers, probably to the west of the UK and Ireland. More eastern areas are likely to be drier with some bright and sunny spells. Highs at 3 to 6C.

New Year's Day 1/1/21
2021 starts with low pressure over the country. Further spells of rain, sleet and snow but some bright or sunny spells too. Highs at 3 to 6C.
