Cold for all during the week with periods of rain and sleet

Staying cold over the coming days with periods of rain and sleet. Snow generally becomes confined to high ground from this weekend onward. It remains chilly into the weekend with more rain and sleet, mostly to the north and east. Next week is set to stay cool with outbreaks of rain affecting many places.

Monday 07/12/20
Low pressure remains dominant through Monday There are likely to be two main areas of rain during the day: one over southern Ireland, southern England and Wales; another area affecting Orkney, Shetland and the far north of Scotland, this turning wintry in places. Elsewhere it should be dry with some bright or sunny spells. A further area of rain moves into eastern parts of northern England and Scotland later. Staying cold for all. Highs at 2 to 7C.


Tuesday 08/12/20
Low pressure to the south and to the northeast of the UK on Tuesday. This may allow for some light, patchy rain along southern coasts as well as patchy rain in northern and eastern Scotland and northeast England, some of this will turn to sleet or snow here. Drier for other areas with some good sunny spells. High temperatures at 3 to 7C.
 


Wednesday 09/12/20
Low pressure arrives from the west on Wednesday allowing for the introduction of some slightly milder air here. Staying colder elsewhere. Eastern and northern areas will be bright with some sunny spells. Cloudier elsewhere with rain arriving over Ireland and the west of the UK later. Highs at 3 to 6C for most, 8 or 9C in western Ireland.

Thursday 10/12/20
Pressure stays low to the west on Thursday and outbreaks of patchy rain continue to affect Ireland, Northern Ireland and the far west of Scotland, England and Wales. Drier, brighter conditions for most of England and Scotland as well as eastern Wales. Rain becomes heavier later across Ireland and Northern Ireland. Highs will only reach 3 to 7C.

Friday 11/12/20
Heavy rain spreads to all areas from the west on Friday. This turns to snow over hilltops in the north. A mixture of sunny spells and showers follow from the west. Showers mainly confined to west-facing coasts and hills. Highs at a cool 2 to 7C.

Saturday 12/12/20
Rain clears southeast England through Saturday morning to leave a mixture of good sunny spells and showers for the UK and Ireland. Showers mainly affecting western areas. A further area of rain arrives over Ireland later. Highs range from just 2 to 6C.
