Feeling very cold in the wind, especially to the south and east; some wintry showers

A colder period ahead through the start of next week. The northeast wind will be strong at times bringing a risk of some showers to the east. There will be some frosty nights in the west and a signficant wind-chill affecting many areas, especially the east. Tending to remain cool later in the week, but conditions becoming more mixed.

Wednesday 01/04/20
Low pressure is to the north of Scotland on Wednesday. A strong, westerly flow in northern and western Scotland brings frequent showers here, some of them heavy. Western parts of Scotland may see longer spells of drizzly rain. Drier and brighter to the south and east with the best of the sunshine in southern areas. Highs ranging from 7 to 9C.


Thursday 02/04/20
Low pressure northeast of Scotland on Thursday. A brisk northwest wind affects Scotland and Northern Ireland as well as northern parts of England and Wales. Heavy showers for northern and western facing coasts and hills. Showers turning wintry on higher ground. Further south it should be dry with sunny spells and broken cloud. Highs at 9 to 13C.
 


Friday 03/04/20
The northwest flow persists through Friday with low pressure to the northeast. Showers affect northern and western areas, these wintry at times on hills. More persistent drizzle at times for western coasts of Ireland and Scotland. Drier to the south and east with some bright or sunny spells. Highs at 6 to 11C.
 


Saturday 04/04/20
Conditions may become more mixed on Saturday with showers for many areas and outbreaks of rain, sometimes heavy, to the north and west. The showers could be locally heavy and wintry, especially in the north. Staying dry for much of England and Wales. Best of the sun tothe southeast. Highs at 7 to 12C.


Sunday 05/04/20
A front may bring outbreaks of rain to northern areas on Sunday, this turns to snow in the far north and over higher ground in Scotland. Otherwise, a mostly dry day with a few sunny spells to the south. Highs at 6 to 12C.

Monday 06/04/20
Further fronts bring outbreaks of rain to northern and western areas on Monday, some of it heavy. Staying mostly dry but cloudy for England and Wales. Turning milder with highs ranging from 8 to 13C.
