Easterly winds by next weekend

A major change of pattern compared to recent weeks and months, as high pressure finally builds toward the north of the British Isles, cutting off the relentless Atlantic weather patterns. Winds turning easterly by the weekend and feeling chilly.

Wednesday 18/03/20
Dry and mild in the south of England & Wales, with hazy sunshine. Highs 13 to 15C. south A frontal zone extends across northern parts of England & Wales bringing cloud, rain and drizzle, most persistent on western hills - this may linger for much of the day. Further north into Scotland & Northern Ireland it will be drier and brighter, with sunshine and scattered showers, but feeling cool at 7 to 10C.


Thursday 19/03/20
The remnants of a cold front drifts south across England, with cloud and patchy rain tending to break up. A cooler day for all with north to northwesterly winds. Sunshine and showers, these becoming frequent across northern and western areas. Snow on the hills, and possible hail. Temperatures 6 to 10C.
 


Friday 20/03/20
Chilly north to northeasterly winds affect the country as pressure builds to the northwest. A band of rain may affect English Channel coasts. Showers coming in from the North Sea affect east & northeastern districts, with snow on hills, and sometimes falling to lower elevations. Largely dry in the west. Highs 6 to 9C.
 


Saturday 21/03/20
High pressure to the north results in easterly winds. Many places dry, although a scattering of showers coming in from the east, with snow or soft hail, particularly over higher ground. Showery rain may be frequent around the south coast. Frosty in the morning in the north under light winds. Highs 5 to 10C.

Sunday 22/03/20
Easterly winds are expected to continue. Many places may well stay dry, but feeling cool. A chance of some rain pushing across southern counties. Frosty in the morning for northern regions, and in shelter elsewhere. Highs 6 to 10C.

Monday 23/03/20
Becoming milder as winds slowly turn more to the southeast. Largely dry conditions, with scattered local showers. Frosty in the morning. Highs 6 to 12C.
