Threat of flooding Wales and western England

A very mild southwesterly airflow through midweek will combine with a slow-moving front to produce sustained heavy rain over western hills in Wales and Cumbria Flooding is likely to develop in these areas. Conditions stay unsettled toward the weekend, becoming cooler heading toward the start of November.

Thursday 28/10/21
Heavy rain affects Wales, northwest England and perhaps the southwest too. A threat of flooding in these areas with some torrential rain over the hills. Drier toward the east and southeast of England. Also mainly dry with a few showers for Scotland and Northern Ireland. Strong southwesterly winds for England & Wales, gales for exposed coasts and hills. Very mild in the south and east, up to 18C, cooler toward the north, nearer 10C in Scotland.


Friday 29/10/21
Low pressure stays in charge, although the heaviest rain from midweek is likely to clear. Some rain passes east across England. Some bright or sunny spells for central counties. Showers follow in the west. Risk of more frequent or constant rain in Scotland. Blustery and feeling cooler across the country. Highs 10 to 14C, locally up to 16C in the southeast.
 


Saturday 30/10/21
Southwesterly winds bring pulses of rain across Britain, showery in western Scotland. Locally rain may set in for a time. Some drier and brighter conditions, best toward the east of the country. Breezy in exposed areas, but lighter winds than previous days for many. Top temperatures between 10 and 15C.
 


Sunday 31/10/21
Low pressure stays in charge across Britain, with the greatest risk of rain across England and Wales. Brighter with a few showers for Scotland and Ireland. Potential for gales around southern coasts. Highs 10 to 13C.

Monday 1/11/21
Low pressure is due to be north and east of Britain. For most the day will be bright and breezy with sunny spells, a scattering of showers over western hills, wintry over the tops in the Highlands. Feeling cool at 8 to 12C.

Tuesday 2/11/21
A cool northwesterly flow continues to bring sunshine and showers, perhaps some frequent rain in places, but locally escaping often dry in central and eastern areas. Highs 7 to 11C.
