Duty forecaster: Alexi Venerus

Mild though unsettled for much of next week. A cooler end however.

A more mobile yet milder flow as we head through the weekend and into next week. Expect frequent and heavy rain at times as well as strengthened winds. Some cooler air towards the end of the week though as winds veer northerly.

Tuesday 19/10/21
We continue with this mild flow on Tuesday though remaining unsettled. Winds will be strong to gale force in places with outbreaks of rain, heaviest and most frequent across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland. Patchy rain and better drier periods expected further east. Highs at a very mild 15 to 19C, and good chance of a few east to south-eastern regions of England reaching 20C.

Wednesday 20/10/21
Low pressure continues to dominate through midweek with outbreaks of rain, perhaps heaviest and most frequent further north but pretty much anywhere seeing some heavier spells at times. Winds stay blustery and start to veer round towards the northwest bringing a cooler flow to the north and west through the day. Temperatures fall back to more average for the time of year with highs around 11 to 15C.

Thursday 21/10/21
Staying mixed into Thursday. Drier and brighter weather across Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland as a ridge builds in here. England and Wales still seeing outbreaks of rain at times. A chilly northerly wind will persist and it is likely to be brisk towards the east where it will feel particularly chilly. Highs at 8 to 12C for most though slightly milder in the far south.

Friday 22/10/21
A brief ridge on Friday sees a quieter day generally with most having a dry and fair day, though some showery rain still expected to affect eastern regions of Scotland and England. A chilly start is likely for many too as the skies clear overnight. A cooler day for all with highs at 7 to 12C.

Saturday 23/10/21
It looks like a south-westerly flow moves back in on Saturday as Atlantic low pressure sweeps an associated front across western regions of the UK as well as Ireland. This will bring cloud and rain to these parts. Drier elsewhere. Highs recover in the west but staying cooler for most at 8 to 13C.

Sunday 24/10/21
Rain spreads east on Sunday seeing a wet morning for many across Scotland and England, though soon clearing, with brighter conditions for Ireland and Northern Ireland. A less cool day with highs at 9 to 14C.
