Pressure building, dry and milder weather ahead

Cool and unsettled conditions early in the week, but things are improving as high pressure expands across the British Isles later in the week. A waft of warm air from the southwest will push temperatures toward a pleasant 20C for some in the afternoons, although western coasts and hills may suffer from low cloud drizzle.

Thursday 7/10/21
High pressure ridges across southern Britain bringing dry and fair weather for many, with variable amounts of cloud. Best of the sunshine is likely towards the south and east. Cloud will thicken across the northwest as a warm front moves in, bringing rain to western Scotland and Northern Ireland as the day progresses. A southwesterly wind will strengthen in these areas, whilst winds stay lighter further south. A cool start with some fog patches. Highs 13 to 17C.

Friday 8/10/21
High pressure stays toward the southeast, maintaining fair conditions. Some morning fog in low lying areas. A front trails across northwest Scotland and far west of Ireland, where brisk southwest winds bring cloud and spells of rain or drizzle. Some low cloud near Irish Sea coasts, otherwise England & Wales will have good spells of sunshine. Feeling warmer and more humid than recent days. Highs 15 to 20C, warmest in east.

Saturday 9/10/21
High pressure maintains largely fair weather, with early fog clearing to give some spells of sunshine for England, Wales and eastern Scotland. Remnants of the front bring cloud and some rain in southern Scotland, Wales and the far west of England. Brighter and drier in East Anglia and southeast England. Some sunshine for western Scotland and Ireland where it should be dry. Highs 15 to 20C, warmest eastern England.

Sunday 10/10/21
A settled spell continues on Sunday with high pressure influencing most of the country. A weak front may bring some cloud and spots of rain and drizzle in East Anglia and southeast England. Mainly fair with bright or sunny spells once early fog clears elsewhere. Cloudier in western Scotland with a little drizzle possible, coming in on a southwesterly breeze. Otherwise the wind very light across the country. A possible fresher easterly on the south coast. Highs 15 to 19C.

Monday 11/10/21
Staying fair for many with early fog and then sunny spells developing. A light southwesterly breeze for Scotland, cloudier in the northwest, perhaps patchy rain toward the Northern Isles. An easterly breeze on the south coast. Highs 15 to 19C.

Tuesday 12/10/21
High pressure prevails, with sunshine and early fog once again. Mostly light winds. Starting cool in rural areas. Highs 14 to 19C.
