Windy and unsettled, colder late in the week, then milder and unsettled again next week

An unsettled week ahead with periods of rain and showers as well as strong winds at times. It is going to be turning significantly colder through Wednesday in Scotland and then through all other areas of the country into Thursday. Friday looks set to be drier and brighter before we return to milder, windy and potentially wetter weather next week.

Thursday 21/10/21
The flow turns northwesterly on Thursday as a ridge of high pressure builds into western Ireland bringing much colder weather for all. There will be rain and shower affecting central and southern England and Wales in the morning, this probably clearing south and east in the afternoon. Brighter for northern England, Scotland and Ireland. Showers in northern and eastern areas of Scotland and England, the showers wintry on the highest hills. Brighter and drier for Ireland. Highs at 8C in northern Scotland, 12C in southern England.

Friday 22/10/21
A ridge of high pressure builds on Friday. This gives a fair day for most with some good spells of sunshine. Increasing cloud in western Ireland brings some drizzle and low cloud here. A few showers may affecting eastern coasts of England and Scotland. Highs at 9 to 13C.
 

Saturday 23/10/21
The ridge remains over East Anglia and southeast England on Saturday with dry weather here, although breezy and with increased cloud. Rain into Ireland and much of Scotland will be reaching western Wales, becoming heavy as it edges east. Highs at 11 to 16C.

Sunday 24/10/21
A front brings rain to southern England and Wales on Sunday. Brighter in northern England and Scotland as well as Ireland. Some showers in the west, a few of them heavy. Highs at a mild 13 to 17C.

Monday 25/10/21
Staying unsettled on Monday as more fronts push eastwards taking cloud and rain with them. Most of the rain will be in more northern and western areas. Rather breezy and mild again for most at 11 to 16C.

Tuesday 26/10/21
Unsettled again through Tuesday with low pressure bringing strong winds and periods of rain. Gales may affect southern areas too. Highs at 10 to 15C.
