Week ahead - October 15, 2021
Becoming unsettled
Milder next week

Issued: 0930 Friday 15th October 2021
Duty forecaster: Alexi Venerus

Chillier in the north today and tomorrow. Then a mild yet unsettled flow moves in next week.

A change to a more mobile weather pattern through next week as Atlantic low pressure moves in. Expect strengthened winds and frequent outbreaks of rain and showers. Milder too, though perhaps less so towards the end of the week.

Monday 18/10/21
A more unsettled day is likely on Monday. Spells of rain will push eastwards as fronts move across the country along with a strengthened south-westerly wind. Rain heaviest to the north and west while turning rather patchy across England. A mild day with highs at 12 to 18C.

Tuesday 19/10/21
We continue with this mild flow on Tuesday though remaining unsettled. Winds stay strong too with gale force strengths across some western regions. Outbreaks of rain affecting the west but drier further east. Highs at a very mild 14 to 19C perhaps even reaching 20C in some locations across east England.

Wednesday 20/10/21
Low pressure continues to dominate through midweek with outbreaks of rain, perhaps heaviest and most frequent further north and west. Drier spells at times too with some sunny spells about but as winds stay strong rain or showers won't be too far away for anyone. Temperatures fall back to more average for the time of year with highs around 11 to 15C.

Thursday 21/10/21
Staying mixed to unsettled as we head into Thursday. Strong winds still affecting many regions, more so further north and east. Rain heaviest and most persistent in the north as the low pressure centre moves to the northeast of Scotland. This in turn drags down a cooler northerly wind seeing temperatures pull back again in the north. Highs at 8 to 12C in the north yet a milder 12 to 15C further south.

Friday 22/10/21
A ridge builds on Friday seeing a quieter day generally with many areas seeing dry and sunny conditions, though some showery rain still expected to affect eastern regions of Scotland and England. A chilly start perhaps across northern and western areas too. A cooler day for all with highs at 8 to 13C.

Saturday 23/10/21
It looks like a south-westerly flow wants to come back in on Saturday as Atlantic low pressure moves east and sweeps an associated front across western regions of the UK as well as Ireland. This will bring cloud and rain to these parts. Highs recover slightly and pull back up to 10 to 15C.
