Mixed, showers, rain and wind, better Christmas Day, then milder and drier by the weekend

Mixed weather in the coming days. Showers for Christmas Eve. The best of days for Christmas Day and again on Friday. Wind and rain may cause some localised flooding problems for Boxing Day, although confidence is low. Tending to then turn drier for many over the weekend and next week, becoming milder too as well as more breezy.

Boxing Day 26/12/19
An area of low pressure passes through Ireland on Boxing Day. This brings rain, some of it heavy. he rain spreads east through the day and it becomes increasingly windy too. There is uncertainty over the timing of the rain, and it may be that eastern England is dry until mid-afternoon. Staying dry too in the far north of Scotland. The rain turs to showers in Wales and southwest England later. Highs at 4C in northern Scotland, 6C in northern England, but turning much milder in southwest England and Ireland at 11C.

Friday 27/12/19
Low pressure clears the east on Friday morning to be followed by sunny spells and drier weather as a ridge of high pressure builds. Most areas becoming dry. Always the threat of some cloud in western Ireland with drizzle here. Highs at 6 to 10C.

 
 
 

Saturday 28/12/19
A ridge of high pressure continues to affect eastern areas of the country. This brings plenty of dry weather with the best sunshine in the east. Thicker cloud and windier weather in the west with drizzle and patchy rain in Ireland and western Scotland. Highs at 7 to 12C.
 

Sunday 29/12/19
Cloud and rain in Scotland and Ireland on Sunday. It is going to be a breezy day with periods of rain in Scotland and Ireland too, drizzle in northwest England. Drier in eastern and southern England, breezy too. Highs at 9 to 13C.

Monday 30/12/19
Weak fronts passing east on Monday. Low pressure to the north of Scotland, higher pressure to the south. Some cloud and outbreaks of rain in northern England and Wales as well as southwest England. Drier in eastern and southern parts of England. Showers in northern and western Scotland, some of them heavy. Highs at 8 to 13.

New Year's Eve 31/12/19
Probably dry for many areas on New Year's Eve. There could be some showers or rain in the far north of Scotland, these wintry on hills. A breezy day, highs near 4C in northern Scotland, 10C in southern England.
