Unsettled and mild, risk of heavy rain, more settled for Christmas
An unsettled few days ahead, the rain will be heavy at times and it is likely to be windy as well. Milder temperatures arriving for all. Into next week it is likely to be mixed in the run up to Christmas although cooler. There are indications of a rather murky but mild Christmas Day for many.

Friday 20/12/19 Low pressure over Scotland on Friday. Rain, some heavy at first through Scotland and eastern parts of England. Some mist and fog patches, these clearing. Showers and some outbreaks of rain in western Scotland later as well as western England and western Wales as well as western Ireland. Sunny spells developing through many parts too during the day. Highs at 6 to 11C.
Saturday 21/12/19 Low pressure brings rain into Ireland and western parts of the UK on Saturday. Northern and eastern areas should be brighter and drier, some sunny spells here. Windy in western and southern areas too. Highs at 4C in northern Scotland, 11C in southern England, 6 to 8C elsewhere.
Sunday 22/12/19 Low pressure north of Scotland, another areas of low pressure east of the UK. Some showers in northern and western Scotland, with further showers in eastern England. Drier elsewhere with sunny spells, although some showers on western coasts and hills. Tops near 7 to 11C.
Monday 23/12/19 A weak ridge of high pressure builds on Monday bringing drier weather north and east. Coud, wind and rain in Ireland, western and southern parts of the UK, some of the rain heavy. Highs at 12C in southern areas, generally 6 to 8C.
Christmas Eve 24/12/19 The risk of some rain and showers crossing the UK and Ireland on Christmas Eve, although confidence is low at this stage. It may be windy too. Highs at 5 to 8C.
Christmas Day 25/12/19 Perhaps a rather murky Christmas Day. There could be some mist and fog patches with low cloud and drizzle. This should break with some bright or sunny spells developing. Highs at 5 to 9C.
