Unsettled start
Milder, drier later

Issued: 0900 Sunday 22nd December 2019
Duty forecaster: Dr. Simon Keeling

Unsettled to Christmas and then drier and milder

Further periods of rain at times for the next few days, these may bring some local flooding. Tending to turn more settled after Christmas with pressure tending to build allowing for brighter weather too. Turning milder too.

For the weather for the next few days click here

Christmas Day 25/12/19
A ridge of high pressure will build across the UK and Ireland for Christmas day. Then maybe some mist and fog patches in the morning but these will clear to leave a fine day with plenty of sunshine. Showers may affect northern and western Scotland. Thick cloud and some rain together with stronger winds affecting western Island later. Highs at 6 to 8C.

Boxing Day 26/12/19
A small area of low pressure passes east on Boxing Day. There is much uncertainty in the detail of the weather but it does look as if it will become wetter from the west during the day. It is likely to become windy to as the rain pushes east. Highs at 11C in southwest England, 5 to 8C for most other areas.

Friday 27/12/19
Higher pressure tends to build on Friday. There may be some morning rain in eastern areas but this should clear. Many places are likely then to be mostly dry with broken cloud and sunny spells. Scattered showers may still affect Northwest England and western Scotland. Highs at 7 to 10C.

Saturday 28/12/19
High pressure again dominating through Saturday. This brings fair conditions and some good spells of sunshine. There could be a few morning mist patches, but there soon clearing. A low risk of scattered showers in northeast Scotland. Highs at 8 to 12C.

Sunday 29/12/19
Remains high on Sunday. A risk of some morning mist and fog patches, soon clearing. Most areas dry with good spells of sunshine in the east. Breezier and cloudier for Ireland and western Scotland with some patchy rain here. Highs at 6 to 8C for most, but 12C in southwest England.

Monday 30/12/19
Pressure stays high to the south on Monday. Lower pressure to the north with a southwest flow. There will be some rain in Ireland and western Scotland. Drier to the south, sunny spells here. Highs at 7 to 12C.
