Wet and windy, risk of flooding, drier next week and Christmas
Periods of rain, some of it heavy in the next couple of days, turning milder as well. A risk of localised flooding. The rain turns lighter into next week and conditions become a little cooler with temperaures closer to average. Christmas looks mixed but there will be a process of becoming drier underway during Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Saturday 21/12/19 Areas of showers affecting eastern Ireland, west Wales and northwest England as well as southwest Scotland on Saturday morning. These moving into the rest of Scotland and northern England in the afternoon. A few showers too in southeast England. Low pressure moves into southern Ireland later bringing rain, and this rain turns heavy as it reaches west Wales and southwest England. Best of the conditions in the Midlands and parts of southern England as well as northern Scotland. Highs at 5 to 8C.
Sunday 22/12/19 An area of low pressure crosses England and Wales on Saturday morning taking rain with it. It may be breezy too in many areas. A few showers in western Scotland and western Ireland as well as the west of Wales and southwest England. Drier in eastern Scotland as well as the rest of Wales and southwest England. Highs at 5 to 8C.
Monday 23/12/19 A weak ridge of high pressure builds on Monday bringing drier weather north and east. Cloud, wind and rain in southern Ireland, western and southern parts of the UK, some of the rain heavy. Highs at 12C in southern areas, generally 6 to 9C.
Christmas Eve 24/12/19 The risk of some rain and showers crossing the UK and Ireland on Christmas Eve, although confidence is low at this stage. It may be windy too. Highs at 4 to 9C.
Christmas Day 25/12/19 Some rain and showers around on Christmas Day. The highest risk of rain and showers is to the north and west. Probably drier east and south. Highs at 3 to 9C.
Boxing Day 26/12/19 Low pressure may bring rain and strong winds into western Scotland and Ireland for Boxing Day. Mist and fog patches in southern and eastern England, clearing to leave sunny spells. Highs at 5 to 9C.
