Cold into the weekend, some snow over hills, milder and unsettled next week

Temperatures lifting through this week. It is going to be unsettled with periods of rain at times. Staying mixed into the weekend and temperatures holding close to, or just above average. Overnight frosts occur on some nights, mostly in the north of the country.

Thursday 19/12/19
Low pressure remains west of Ireland on Thursday. Fronts passing eastwards taking heavy periods of rain with them. A tendency towards brighter weather in Ireland and western Scotland later, although there is a chance of heavy showers in eastern Ireland, Wales and western Scotland. Staying wet into the afternoon over much of central and eastern England. Highs at 7 to 12C.

Friday 20/12/19
An area of low pressure may pass through the UK on Friday. This brings some periods of rain, probably most in the north. Southern and western areas could become drier and brighter, although there is uncertainty in details at this stage. Highs at 6 to 10C.

 
 
 

Saturday 21/12/19
Low pressure is expected to be to the west of Ireland on Monday. This brings some showers to the west of Ireland. Some wintry showers over the hills of western Scotland and a few showers over western coasts of England and Wales. Tending to be drier in central and eastern areas, although a threat of rain in the southeast. Highs at 4 to 9C.
 

Sunday 22/12/19
Low pressure over Scotland on Sunday. A westerly flow to the south brings sunny spells and western Scotland. A risk of some thicker cloud and rain in Scotland, most north and west. Highs at 10C in the south, 5C in northern Scotland.

Monday 23/12/19
Pressure stays low north of Scotland on Monday with a strong westerly flow to the south. Periods of rain in southern areas, but showers to the north. Highs at 9C in the south, 6C in northern Scotland.

Christmas Eve 24/12/19
Little change with low pressure north and higher pressure to the south of the UK. A westerly flow brings showers in the west but drier in the east. Temperatures close to average at 4 to 8C.
