High pressure will often influence the southern half of Britain during the week ahead, maintaining a good deal of dry weather. Some stubborn fog patches. Breezier in the north, with rain at times for western Scotland.

New Year's Eve 31/12/19 A ridge of high pressure builds across Britain. Residual drizzly rain for a time in the south. Winds falling light. Some fog patches. Generally cloudy, some sun breaking through. Dry and calm into the evening. Highs 6 to 9C.
New Year's Day 1/1/20 High pressure to the southeast brings a dry day to many places. Some lingering fog patches in central and southern areas. Strengthening southwesterly winds in the north and west. Some drizzly rain arriving in western Scotland. Highs 5 to 9C.
Thursday 2/1/20 Brisk southwesterly winds. Fairly mild and dry overall for England and Wales. A cold front moves into Scotland and Ireland with rain turning heavy. Some rain spreads toward northwest England & Wales later. Highs 7 to 10C.
Friday 3/1/19 A fragmenting area of rain pushes south across Britain on brisk westerly winds. Cooler with showers following, wintry over Scottish hills. Highs 4 to 10C.
Saturday 4/1/19 Pressure builds again across the south. Some rain mostly in the northwest. Variable cloud and some fog for central and southern areas. Highs 5 to 9C.
Sunday 5/1/19 High pressure stays to the south, with some fog for southern England. A brisk southwesterly wind brings rain to western Scotland. Highs 5 to 10C.
