Cold through this weekend and early next week, some snow over hills; milder and unsettled later

Cold weather over the coming days with spells of rain to the west and south. Tending to be drier and brighter to the east over the coming few days. Conditions turn more unsettled into mid-week as low pressure develops west of Ireland bringing periods of rain, some of it heavy.

Wednesday 18/12/19
Low pressure over and west of Ireland on Wednesday brings periods of rain to Ireland. A dry and bright day for much of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland though cloud builds across southwestern areas later. A windy day for Ireland and the southwest UK. High temperatures at 1 to 9C.


Thursday 19/12/19
Unsettled on Thursday as low pressure sends fronts across Ireland and the UK. Outbreaks of rain spread from the southwest across the country. This falls as snow over the mountains of Scotland. A breezy day too with the strongest winds to the west. Highs at 4 to 11C.
 


Friday 20/12/19
Low pressure dominates through Friday bringing showery outbreaks of rain to northern and western parts of the UK and Ireland. Mostly dry elsewhere but rather cloudy. Some sunny spells develop between showers to the west. High temperatures at 3 to 9C.

 
 
 


Saturday 21/12/19
Saturday starts dry and bright for many with just isolated showers for western areas. A front brings rain and strong winds into Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales and southwest England through the afternoon. Highs at 3 to 8C for most, 9 or 10C for the far south of England.


Sunday 22/12/19
Low pressure to the west sends further fronts across the country on Sunday. Outbreaks of rain for most areas - these particularly heavy over England and Wales. A windy day too for southern areas with high temperatures at 4 to 10C.

Monday 23/12/19
Monday may see the British Isles sandwiched between two areas of low pressure. One to the northeast clears away through the afternoon leaving a mostly dry and bright day for the UK while the second moves in from the southwest later bringing heavy rain and strong winds to southern parts of Ireland and the UK. Highs at 2 to 8C.
