Unsettled with wind and rain, colder at times in the north, generally milder to the south

A mixed week with rain and gales at first. The rain could be heavy at times, especially in the west with snow on hills. Generally milder in the south, but colder in northern areas. Higher pressure may begin to build in next week bringing drier weather to the east and south.

Friday 30/12/22
Wet and windy on Friday as further fronts pass eastwards through the British Isles. Low pressure close to Scotland. There will be snow over the hills of Scotland with rain heavy in places in the morning as winds gust to 50 to 60mph. Becoming a little brighter from the west with some blustery showers, especially affecting western coasts and hills, some of them heavy and thundery. Scattered showers in the east. Some of the showers merging to longer spells of rain in the west. Highs at a cool 4 to 6C as rain clears, but 10 to 12C in the morning as the rain passes through.


New Year's Eve 31/12/22
Cool in Scotland and northern England as well as much of Ireland on New Year's Eve. A weak front brings some snow to the north of Scotland. Further south it is brighter and drier with some good spells of sunshine. Brighter for northern England and southern Scotland as wel as al but the far south of Ireland, sunny spells and fry. Cloudier through the Midlands, Wales and East Anglia as well as southern England and the far south of Ireland. Outbreaks of rain and rather misty and murky. Highs at 12C in southern England, 3C in northern Scotland, around 6 or 7C in northern England.

New Year's Day 1/1/23
Low pressure moves north through the British Isles on New Year's Day. It brings a wet start to 2023 for many, although mild in many areas of England, Wales and Ireland. Drier in northern Scotland and staying cold here. Some snow through central and southern Scotland. Highs at 5C in northern Scotland, 7C for northern England, 12C in southern England.

Holiday Monday 2/1/23
Rain clears east on Monday, although there is a low risk of some sleet in eastern England until early afternoon. Becoming brighter from the west as a weak ridge of high pressure builds. Highs at 4 to 7C.

Tuesday 3/1/23
Higher pressure builds in the east on Tuesday. This brings fair weather to many eastern areas. A fron passing through Ireland and into the west of the UK will be bringing cloudier skies and periods of rain here. Highs around 3 to 9C.

Wednesday 4/1/23
High pressure east of the country with low pressure t the west. A windy day in Scotland with rain in the west this rain affecting Ireland to. Drier for England and Wales as well as eastern Scotland, a risk of some fog in England and Wales, especially in the morning. Highs near 5 to 9C.
